Bukhtarma Depression
an intermontane depression between the ridges of the Southern Altai on the south and the mountain mass on the right bank of the Bukhtarma River on the north and east (in Kazakh SSR). The depression is drained by the Bukhtarma River. The Bukhtarma depression is about 120 km long, and its elevation is from 1, 400 m in the east to 700-750 m in the west. The depression consists of a system of small basins (the Katon-Karagai and the Uryl’ basins) with steppe and meadow vegetation, and the saddles dividing them, which are covered with larch and pine forests.
