CPR (e.g., American Heart Association or American Red Cross).
In 2,900 of those cases, there was no bystander
CPR. Lay bystanders performed conventional
CPR in 666 cases (15%) and compression-only
CPR in 849 cases (19%).
Overall, 48% of the children did receive bystander
CPR. However, compared to whites, bystander
CPR was 41% less likely for black kids; 22% less likely for Hispanic kids and 6% less likely among other ethnic groups.
CPR, or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, involves chest compressions and artificial ventilation to help pump blood around a person's body when their heart is not able to.
Amna Al Suwaidi, Director of Medical Education and Research Department, said: "In a cardiac arrest, seconds count, provision of
CPR by trained personnel before emergency professionals arrive at the scene can greatly increase a victim's chance of survival.
Stirling Council education committee said: "All of our high schools will be delivering
CPR training for a year group of pupils by the end of this academic session.
The
CPR training was conducted by cardiologists from Manila and Zamboanga.
About half of the time, no
CPR was performed; among the 1,150 who received
CPR, 733 had compression-only
CPR.
