Location:In southernmost Illinois, just west of US 45 and south of IL 146, near Vienna.
Facilities:Canoe trail (3-6 miles), bicycle trail (8 miles of the Tunnel Hill State Bicycle Trail), hiking trails (18 miles), wetlands center.
Activities:Canoeing, fishing, hiking, bicycling, birding, wildlife viewing, hunting, interpretive programs.
Special Features:Among the outstanding natural features in the area are massive cypress trees with bases that exceed 40 feet in circumference. Many are more than 1,000 years old, including one that has been designated as a state champion due to its huge trunk girth, towering height, and heavily branched canopy. Wetlands in the area are so important to migratory waterfowl and shorebirds that they've been designated a Wetland of International Importance.The area provides habitat for more than 100 plant and animal species that are listed by the state of Illinois as endangered or threatened.
