The port’s freight turnover is nearly 3 million tons (1970), with lead and zinc ores, salt, wine, and olive oil as the chief exports. It has shipbuilding, oil-refining, chemical and petrochemical, electrical engineering, and food industries. Wood products and building materials are also produced.
