Cairns

 

a city in Australia, in northeast Queensland. A port on Trinity Bay of the Coral Sea, Pacific Ocean. Population, 28,300 (1970). Sugar and bottled tropical juices are produced, and there is a wood-products industry. Cairns is a tourist attraction. Good turnovers of the port was 925,700 tons in 1967–68; sugar, raw-mineral materials, fruits, juices, and wood are exported.
