Cambiform Cells

 

the elongated, living, thin-walled, pointed or narrow-tipped cells in the phloem of plants.

Cambiform cells have no transverse septa; they correspond infunction to the cells of parenchymatous phloem. They arise fromthe cells of the procambium or the fusiform cells of the cambiumand maintain a shape characteristic of both (hence the name).Formerly, the term “cambiform” was applied to all thin-walledphloem elements of the conducting bundles.
