Campinas

 

a city in southeastern Brazil, in the state of São Paulo. Population, 376, 500 (1970). A railroad and highway junction, Campinas is the center of an important agricultural region(coffee, cotton, sugarcane, grains). It has textile, machine-building (electric locomotives, sewing machines), metallurgical, chemical, leather, and food industries.
