a nonmagnetic sailing ship (brigantine) built in theUSA in 1909. Displacement, 568 tons. From 1909 through 1921, geomagnetic observations were made from the Carnegie in theAtlantic, Pacific, and Indian oceans; in 1928 and 1929, oceano-graphic research was conducted in the Pacific. The Carnegie sank in November 1929 off Samoa.
