Cary, Elisabeth Luther

Cary, Elisabeth Luther

(1867–1936) writer; born in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was educated privately, studied art for many years, and was the owner and editor of The Script, an art magazine (1905–08). She then became the first full-time art critic for the New York Times (1908–27). She also wrote many translations from the French, and critical studies of such writers as Emerson and Rossetti.
