Special Features:Built from 1808-1811, this structure served successively as a defense for New York harbor, a promenade and entertainment center, and an immigration depot through which more than 8 million people entered the United States from 1855 to 1890. From 1896 until 1941, it served as the New York City Aquarium and was one of the city's most popular attractions.
