Cauchy ratio test

[kō·shē ′rā·shō ‚test]
(mathematics)
A series of nonnegative terms converges if the limit, as n approaches infinity, of the ratio of the (n + 1)st to n th term is smaller than 1, and diverges if it is greater than 1; the test fails if this limit is 1. Also known as ratio test.
