Central Radio Laboratory

 

a scientific research organization founded in Petrograd in 1923 within the radio division of the State Weak-current Plant Trust. The laboratory gradually evolved into a multiple-discipline institution for scientific and technical research and development in radio engineering, vacuum-tube technology, high-frequency industrial technology, infrared technology, hydroacoustics, electroacoustics, television, and measurement technology. In 1928, the V. I. Lenin Nizhny Novgorod Radio Laboratory became part of the Cential Radio Laboratory. In 1936, the Central Radio Laboratory was reorganized as the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Radio Broadcasting and Acoustics, which was named after A. S. Popov in 1959.
