Ch’üanchou

 

a city in East China, in Fukien Province. Population, 119,000 (1959). Ch’üanchou is a port on the Formosa Strait and a transportation center on the Canton-Fuchou highway. The city produces textiles, including fabrics made from ramie fiber, and food products, such as polished rice, flour, and vegetable oil. Salt is mined in the area, and tea and fruit are shipped from the city.
