Chambers, Julius L. (Levonne)
(1936– ) , lawyer; born in Montgomery County, N.C. Partner in a Charlotte, N.C. law firm (1964–84), and a civil-rights advocate, he was named director-counsel of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Legal Defense and Education Fund in 1984 and was a trustee of several national institutions. Both with his private firm and as head of the NAACP's Fund, he won numerous landmark cases involving the education, employment, and civil rights of African-Americans.
