Champney, Benjamin
(1817–1907) painter; born in New Ipswich, N.H. He worked as a lithographer in Boston, Mass., became a portraitist (1841), traveled to Europe (1841 and 1846–48), and exhibited panoramas in Boston and New York (1848–50). He wintered in Massachusetts, spent summers in North Conway, N.H., and painted landscapes, such as Picnic on Artist's Ledge Overlooking Conway Meadows, N.H. (1874).
