a port in N central Peru: contains Peru's first steelworks (1958), using hydroelectric power from the Santa River. Pop.: 328 000 (2005 est.)

Chimbote

 

a city in Peru, in the department of Ancash; situated on the Pan-American Highway, near the mouth of the Santa River. Population, 103,000 (1970). Chimbóte is a port on the Pacific Ocean and has a railroad station. It has enterprises of the ferrous metallurgy industry. A large fishing center, the city produces processed fish, mainly fish meal. Fish meal and agricultural products are exported.

Para el litoral peruano, el primer trabajo relacionado a la estimacion de la talla de madurez de caballa fue realizado por Minano y Castillo (1971), quienes para la zona de Chimbote reportaron una talla de madurez de 27 cm y 28 cm de longitud total (LT) para las hembras y los machos respectivamente, encontrando ademas que la talla mas frecuente a la que se realiza el desove fue de 31.5 cm de LT.
Las espacialidades y lugares de origen son Trujillo, Chincha, Iquitos y Chimbote, entre otros.
(4) Se ubican en Tumbes, Paita (Piura), Santa Rosa (Lambayeque), Huanchaco (La Libertad), Chimbote (Ancash), Huacho (Lima), Pisco (Ica), Camana (Arequipa), Puno e Ilo (Moquegua).
As a young grad student in Peru in 1980, 1 happened to visit some old shell midden sites along an ancient, now-dry embayment near Chimbote, Peru's top fishing port.
