Chryselephantine Sculpture
sculpture in gold and ivory. Chryselephantine sculpture, a genre typical of classical art, was mainly used for colossal statues of the gods. The statues consisted of a wooden frame on which were applied plates of ivory, representing exposed skin; clothing and hair were done in gold.
