Ciudad Victoria

 

a city in eastern Mexico. Situated at the foot of the Sierra Madre Oriental, on the Pan-American Highway. Capital of the state of Tamaulipas. Population, 94,300 (1970). Ciudad Victoria has a railroad station. The center of an agricultural region producing sugarcane, citrus fruits, and henequén, it has sugar refineries, tanneries, and henequén mills. The city has a university (founded 1955). Ciudad Victoria was founded in 1750.
