Cochabamba

 

a city in Bolivia on the southern slopes of the Cordillera Oriental at an elevation of about 2,600 m. Capital of Cochabamba department. Population, 150,000 (1970). Railroad station.

A highway junction, Cochabamba is a tourist resort and the principal economic center of eastern Bolivia, with food, textile, and leather industries. There is also oil refining. The city has a university. Cochabamba was founded in 1574.
