Coffeen Lake State Fish & Wildlife Area
Location:In Montgomery County in west central Illinois, 3 miles east northeast
of Donnellson and I-127 or 2 miles west southwest of Coffeen and IL185.
Facilities:Picnic facilities, toilets, drinking water, boat ramps (é), docks (é).
Activities:Boating (25 HP limit), fishing, hunting, trapping.
Special Features:Site operates under a longterm lease with Ameren Energy Generating
company. Twenty-two species of fish are found in Coffeen Lake,
including largemouth and striped bass,
white crappie, and channel catfish. Power plant operation noticeably
affects fishing activity and success, but fish growth appears to be
faster than in many other lakes.
