Location:From Norfolk to Chadron, parallel to US 275 and US 20.
Facilities:Finished trail segments include a 34-mile section between Norfolk and Nehigh, 8 miles between Inman and O'Neill, 4 miles through Valentine toward the east, and through the towns of Long Pine and Ainsworth.
Activities:Hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, cross-country skiing.
Special Features:On the historic route of Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, the Cowboy State Recreation Trail will lead through most of the length of Nebraska, making it the longest rails-to-trails conversion in the U.S. Along its route, the trail will eventually pass over 221 bridges and through 29 communities.
