Cuernavaca is linked with Mexico City by a railroad and highway. Industries include food processing, textiles, and silver handicrafts. The city is a mountain climatic resort and a tourist center famous for its colonial architecture. Noteworthy sites include the Aztec pyramid of Teopanzolco with the ruins of two temples, the Franciscan Monastery (mid-16th century), Cortés’ palace (1530–33), and churches and chapels dating from the 16th through the 18th century. There are also 20th-century hotels.
