On the central eastern border of NM, southeast of Albuquerque; organized Feb 25, 1909 from Quay and Roosevelt counties (prior to statehood). Name Origin: For Capt. George Curry (1863-1947), an officer in the Spanish-American War, NM territorial governor (1907-11), and U.S. representative (1912-13)
