Damadian, Raymond (Vahan)
(1936– ) biophysicist, inventor; born in Forest Hills, N.Y. He studied violin and mathematics before taking a medical degree and doing postgraduate work in biophysics at Harvard. He also served in the U.S. Air Force. His invention of the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner revolutionized the field of diagnostic medicine. His Fonar Corporation manufactures the device for distribution worldwide.
