Davenport, Guy
Davenport, Guy (Mattison, Jr.)
(1927– ) writer, translator, educator; born in Anderson, S.C. A Harvard Ph.D., he joined the University of Kentucky English faculty (1963). His writing, distinctive in its erudition and allusiveness, encompassed essays, poetry, and experimental fiction. He is also known for his translations from Heraclitus, Menander, Sappho, and other ancient Greek authors.
