Davis, Charles Henry

Davis, Charles Henry

(1807–77) naval officer, scientist; born in Boston, Mass. He surveyed the waters around Nantucket and contributed to the establishment of the American Ephemeris and Nautical Almanac (1849). He commanded the Upper Mississippi Flotilla and captured Memphis (1862).
