Enlighteners, Day of the (Den na Buditelite)

A holiday in Bulgaria, this day commemorates the patriots, writers, and revolutionaries who helped to ignite the spirit of Bulgarian nationalism. Thanksgiving services are held in churches, and elsewhere patriotic speeches, parades, and folk music mark this yearly event. Also known as the Day of t he Awakeners, it is largely observed by schools and munici palities.
