Days Preceding Days off and Public Holidays
Under Soviet law, the length of the workday preceding a public holiday for industrial and office workers is shortened by one hour. This applies to those who work the five- and the six-day workweek but not to those who already work a reduced number of hours. The workday before a regular day off cannot exceed six hours for those on a six-day workweek schedule.
