a breed group of semifine-wool sheep. It was produced in the Kazakh SSR by crossing Kazakh fat-tail ewes with rams of the breeds Shropshire and Precoce. The Degeres sheep have a strong constitution and well-developed frame. The body is compact and slightly elongated, and the tail is somewhat smaller than in Kazakh sheep. The rams weigh 100-115 kg (reaching 135 kg), the ewes weigh 60-65 kg (the largest reach 90 kg). The fleece yield from the rams is 3.5-4 kg (the best, up to 8 kg) and from the ewes, 2.5-3 kg (the best, up to 4.5 kg). The fleece length is 12-15 cm, and the pure wool yield is 65-68 percent. The fleece has little wool fat. The primary region for breeding is in the Kazakh SSR. The best purebred herd is in Bakanas Sovkhoz, Balkhash Raion, Alma-Ata Oblast.
