Scientists from the BlackHoleCam team in Europe, who are part of the EHTC, have now gone a step further and investigated whether it is possible to distinguish between a "Kerr" black hole from Einstein's gravity and a "
dilaton" black hole, which is a possible solution of an alternative theory of gravity.
In the low energy effective action, usually string theory based-models are comprised of two massless scalar fields, the
dilaton, and the axion (see, e.g., [1]).
Indeed, it has been shown previously that the higher-dimensional VSI space-time with fluxes and
dilaton is solutions of type IIB supergravity [11-13].
with [T.sub.1] the D1-brane tension, G the bulk metric, (for simplicity we set the Kalb-Ramond two form B to be zero), [phi] the
dilaton and F the field strength, a; b = [tau],[sigma] and i, j = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

dilaton black holes," Revista Mexicana de Astronomia y Astrofisica, vol.
"We have determined that when the Higgs condensate disappeared to make way for the particles that exist today, the equations permitted the existence of a new, massless particle, the
dilaton," explained EPFL physicist Daniel Zenhausern.
A little more work (use the string and
dilaton equations in [10]) on the numbers <[[tau].sup.u.sub.2][[tau].sup.v.sub.0]> can show that the constant [MATHEMATICAL EXPRESSION NOT REPRODUCIBLE IN ASCII] is actually [lambda]-free, as we already know in genus 0 and 1 thanks to Corollary 4, hence the following.
