Established: Proclaimed on October 4, 1915.
Location:In northwestern Colorado and northeastern Utah. Visitor center is 2 miles east of Dinosaur, CO, off US 40.
Facilities:Campgrounds, picnic area, rest rooms (é), visitor centers (é), museum/exhibit, self-guided tour/trail. Entrance fee required.
Activities:Camping, hiking, kayaking, whitewater rafting, fishing, auto touring.
Special Features:Spectacular canyons were cut in this area by the Green and Yampa rivers through upfolded mountains. The quarry here is the single most important Jurassic dinosaur paleontological site anywhere. The monument also has a nearly complete stratigraphic geological record.
