Dioctyl Phthalate

 

the di-n-octyl ester of orthophthalic acid, C6H4(COOC8H17)2; a colorless oily liquid with a boiling point of 340° C. Refractive index n20D 1.482. It is insoluble in water but is miscible with benzine and mineral oils. It is made from n-octyl alcohol and phthalic anhydride in the presence of acid catalysts. Dioctyl phthalate is a plasticizer for polystyrene, polyvinylchloride, and other plastics.

Group C was given 0.15 ml Dioctyl phthalate and 10 mg of vitamin E, each dissolved in 0.4 ml of corn oil respectively, daily for 15 days.
As a result the prices of phthalic anhydride (PA), which is used as the basic material for dioctyl phthalate (DOP) surged.

The plant produces 40,000 t/y of dioctyl phthalate (DOP) and 5,500 t/y of phthalic anhydride.
In all the experiments pertaining to nitrile rubbers, a masterbatch containing 100 phr Hycar 1042 (a general purpose nitrile rubber with good processing characteristics and high physical properties), 65 phr N365 carbon black, 15 phr dioctyl phthalate, 5 phr zinc oxide and 1 phr stearic acid was used.
Dioctyl phthalate and dibutyl phthalate (DBP) are the most common plasticizers for the preparation of semi-soft to all-soft PVC composites.
