(86) The press was provided the incentive to report Serb and Russian accounts of an accidental bombing of refugees by NATO near
Djakovica in April 1999, when spokespersons from NATO, the Pentagon, and the Supreme Allied Commander contradicted each other concerning the event.
On April 14, a pilot who thought that trucks filled with refugees near
Djakovica were part of a military convoy bombed the vehicles, killing 73 noncombatants.

On 14 April 1999, for about two hours in the afternoon, NATO F-16 and Jaguar aircraft attacked two vehicle convoys traveling on the
Djakovica Road in Kosovo.
Monday night's storm destroyed five homes and damaged 50 other buildings in
Djakovica, about 55 miles west of the capital Pristina.
In another reviewed incident, the attack on the
Djakovica refugee convoy on 14 April 1999, it was determined that the target was in fact a civilian object.
The court in Nis, 120 miles south of Belgrade, ruled that the group, all from the south-eastern Kosovo town of
Djakovica, took part in attacks against Serb police during Nato bombing of Yugoslavia last year.
