Smyshliaev, Dmitrii Dmitrievich

 

Born Feb. 22 (Mar. 5), 1828, in Perm’; died there Nov. 15 (27), 1893. Russian zemstvo (local self-government) official, student of local lore, and bibliographer.

Smyshliaev edited and helped write the Perm’ Collection (books 1-2, 1859–60), a work on the history, ethnography, and statistics of the Perm’ region. From 1870 to 1879 he was chairman of the Perm’ provincial zemstvo board. In 1872 he initiated the publication of thePerm’ Zemstvo Collection (vols. 1-34), and edited the collection until 1878. Smyshliaev also compiled a number of bibliographies.
