Dolgoprudnyi

 

a city (a settlement until 1957) in Moscow Oblast, RSFSR. Its railroad station is 18 km north of Moscow. Population, 53,000 (1970; 8,000 in 1939). Dolgoprudnyi has a factory for theater equipment, a mechanized ship-repair plant, building-materials industry. Dolgoprudnyi is the site of the Moscow Physicotechnical Institute, the Central Aerological Observatory of the Central Administration of the Hydrometeorological Service of the USSR, and the Academician D. N. Prianishnikov Agrochemical Experimental Station.
