(50) Types of delusions observed in dermatology patients include delusions of parasitosis, olfactory reference syndrome (delusion of body odor which may be associated with olfactory hallucinations), delusions of fibers in skin (Morgellons), hypochondriacal delusions and delusional
dysmorphophobia. However, delusion of parasitosis is the most frequent delusional disorder that is presented to dermatologists.
There are studies and updated revisions about the application of psychotherapy in non-delusional
dysmorphophobia (Ipser, Sander, & Stein, 2009; Wilhelm, Buhlmann, Hayward, Greenberg, & Dimaite, 2010), However, there is a lack of literature when it comes to a disorder with delusional aspects, where the accepted approach tends to be based on empirical validated treatments for psychosis.
