Established: 1984.
Location:Southern tip of the Delmarva Peninsula, along Virginia's seaboard.
Facilities:Visitor center, viewing sites, hiking trails, photo blind.
Activities:Hunting, hiking.
Special Features:Each fall, migrating birds gather on refuge lands until favorable wind and weather conditions permit an easy crossing of Chesapeake Bay. This "funneling effect" offers excellent viewing opportunities for visitors between late August and early November.
Habitats: 1,153 acres of maritime forests, thickets, grasslands, croplands, with fresh and brackish ponds.
Access: Year round during daylight hours.
Wild life: Waterfowl, raptors, shorebirds, songbirds, star-nosed mole, little brown bat, snakes, turtles, frogs, white-tailed deer, and fox.
