In contrast to aerosols, electroaerosols ensure maximum stability of the dispersal system, deeper penetration into the tissues, higher concentration, and longer stay in the body. These properties result from the similar charge (generally negative) of the particles. Special machines are used to produce electroaerosols, for example, the manual electroaerosol generator and the GEK-1 electroaerosol generator.
Electroaerosol therapy is used chiefly in the form of inhalants to prevent postoperative pneumonia and to treat acute and chronic pulmonary diseases. Less commonly it is used locally to treat trophic ulcers and wounds healing by second intention.
