Volume 3: Bony fishes part 1 (
Elopiformes to Scorpaeniformes).
On the most recent trip to Colombia, the bait (ladyfish, Elops sp.;
Elopiformes: Elopidae) was cut into small pieces and placed in a leak-proof container 1 wk before departure, giving the bait extra time to decay.
The ability to tolerate extreme environmental conditions has been documented in other
Elopiformes, such as tarpon, so it is not surprising that ladyfish also have these traits.
A new species of ladyfish of the genus Elops (
Elopiformes: Elopidae) from the western Atlantic Ocean.
Guide to the leptocephali (
Elopiformes, Anguilliformes and Notacanthiformes).
Ontogenetic tooth loss occurs in other fishes, including members of
elopiformes and anguilliformes (Fahay, 1983), acipenseriformes (Nelson, 2006), and siliformes (Huysseune and Sire, 1997; Kakizawa and Meenakarn, 2003).

A new species of ladyfish, of the genus Elops (

They're members of the
Elopiformes, an ancient order that includes tarpon and bonefish.
