Ems-Jade Canal

 

a navigation canal in the Federal Republic of Germany. The Ems-Jade Canal connects the city of Emden at the mouth of the Ems River, on the Dollart, with Wilhelmsha-ven, located on Jade Bay of the North Sea. The canal, which is 72.3 km long and has three locks, is accessible to vessels with displacements of up to 300 tons. It was opened in 1887.

May 4: As a patrol approached the bridge at MR 998410 it was blown and the enemy opened fire from across the Ems-Jade Canal. In this skirmish Cpl Morrison was killed and Sgt Dabbs later died of wounds.
