Equisetophyta

a phylum of higher plants that are segmented into nodes and internodes. The phylum comprises the classes Hyeniopsida, Sphenophyllopsida (or Sphenopsida), and Equisetopsida. Representatives of all three classes were widespread at one time (especially during the Carboniferous), constituting an important part of the plant cover of the earth. At present the plants, except those of the genus Equipsetum, are found only in fossil form.
