Espíritu Santo

 

an island in the Pacific Ocean. The largest island in the archipelago of the New Hebrides, Espíritu Santo has an area of 4,800 sq km; its population is approximately 9,000. The island is of volcanic origin and has a maximum elevation of 1,810 m. There are tropical rain forests on Espíritu Santo, and the island has coconut palm, coffee, cacao, and sugarcane plantations.
