Size: Largest park in Philadelphia's 9,200-acre park system.
Location:Located from the mouth of the Wissahickon Creek, south to
Center City. The dividing line between East and West Fairmount Parks is
the Schuylkill River.
Facilities:Picnic areas, paved and unpaved trails, tennis and basketball courts, playing fields.
Activities:Recreational options include cycling, walking, roller
blading, hiking and horseback riding, tennis, basketball, soccer, and
softball.
Special Features:East Fairmount Park houses the Academy of Natural
Sciences, the Fairmount Water Works, Boathouse Row, and the
Philadelphia Museum of Art, and an assortment of historic homes and
buildings. Attractions in the West unit include the Mann Center for the
Performing Arts, the Horticulture Center, the Japanese House and
Garden, the Philadelphia Zoo, and several historic mansions.
