The following article is from The Great Soviet Encyclopedia (1979). It might be outdated or ideologically biased.

Filat’ev, Tikhon Ivanovich

Years of birth and death unknown. Russian painter of the turn of the 18th century.

Son of the icon painter I. Filat’ev, Tikhon Filat’ev was an artist in the Armory, a zhalovannyi icon painter (a painter of the highest category, receiving in addition to daily board a yearly remuneration of money and foodstuffs). Filat’ev’s works, in which green and magenta tones were combined with gold, were characterized by a rich palette. Like his teacher S. Ushakov, Filat’ev strove for the chiaroscuro effect and a sense of real space in his paintings.
