I BELIEVE SUMMERSET AT FRICK PARK (Steeling Home," November, page 100) is perhaps the capstone of politically inspired boondoggles foisted on the city of Pittsburgh.
Summerset at Frick Park is the newest, largest housing development built in Pittsburgh since World War II and will generate roughly $4 million annually to the city after build out.
Their ambitious, community-oriented project aims to transform the postindustrial "brownfield" site into a 100-acre addition to
Frick Park. The team is enlisting local residents to help monitor the site and plant native streamside vegetation.
What Summerset at
Frick Park demonstrates is that great projects can come from a collaboration of both local and national firms.
Its vision was on track with that of the Urban Redevelopment Authority, so Rubinoff was chosen to be part of the development team for Summerset at
Frick Park. When completed, the $300-million-plus project, a combination of public and private funding, will be Pittsburgh's largest residential development since World War II.
