Location:Along the Mississippi River bluff near the town of Fults, 25 miles south of Belleville.
Activities:Birdwatching, nature study.
Special Features:Fults Hills Prairie contains the largest complex of high-quality loess hill prairie in Illinois, and was recognized as a National Natural Landmark in 1986. Kidd Lake is an example of the type of wetlands once common in the Mississippi floodplain. It is an important rest stop for migrating waterfowl and provides critical habitiat to a diverse range of birds, amphibians, and reptiles.
