Gaprindashvili, Nona Terent’evna

 

Born May 3, 1941, in Zugdidi. Soviet chess player; Honored Master of Sport of the USSR (1964) and International Master (1961).

Gaprindashvili graduated from the Tbilisi Pedagogical Institute for Foreign Languages and has been a member of the CPSU since 1966. Women’s Champion of the USSR in 1964, she has three times been women’s world chess champion (1962, 1965, 1969) and has won many women’s international tournaments. She has been awarded the Order of Lenin.
