Garnier, Charles

(1825–1898)
A French architect who developed the luxury flat style in the rebuilding of Paris. He also designed the grandiose Neobaroque Opera House in Paris in 1861, a triumph of rich color, ornate decoration, and highly disciplined control of mass and space. Other work includes the casino at Monte Carlo in 1878.
