Tissandier wrote History of Aeronautics in 1878. On Apr. 15, 1875, together with H.-T. Sivel and J.-E. Crocé-Spinelli, Tissandier reached a height of about 8,600 m in a balloon outside Paris.
In 1883 he and his brother Albert designed an electrically powered propeller-driven dirigible. Successful test flights in this dirigible were made in 1883 and 1884.
