Gavrilov-Iam

 

a city (a village until 1938), the center of Gavrilov-Iam Raion, Yaroslavl Oblast, RSFSR; located on the Kotorosl’ River (tributary of the Volga), 46 km south of Yaroslavl. A 20-km branch railroad connects the city with the Semibratovo railroad station (on the Yaroslavl-Moscow line). Population, 21,000 (1970). There is a linen combine which was founded in 1872 as a linen-spinning and weaving factory. The city also has an evening textile technicum.
